Pop Star Peepney Pursued By The Peeperazzi
This diorama attempted to recreate the totally bizarre period in Britney Spears' life from late 2006-early 2008 (when her family seized legal control of her estate and she was briefly sent to a hospital psychiatric ward) when she used to court the paparazzi everytime she did something mudane (like visit a local Starbucks, pump gas at a gas station, and shop for junk food at a Rite Aid or convenience store) as well as bizarre things (like arriving at a nightclub wearing a mini-skirt without any underwear, shaving her head, and inviting one of the paparazzi to spend the night in her hotel room while other photographers were waiting outside). I originally created it for a Peeps diorama contest in 2009 that was sponsored by The Washington Post. The diorama didn't win or even make honorable mention.
Unlike the previous year, when I only used Easter Peeps for the contest, I decided to use a variety of holiday Peeps that I managed to obtain by stockpiling holiday Peeps months in advance (especially the Halloween, Christmas, and Valentine's Day Peeps). I did it in an attempt to make my diorama stand out from the rest of the over 1,000 dioramas that entered the contest--to no avail!
At least the photos below show a rare gathering of the various Peeps from all the different holiday editions in one diorama. Peepney is played by an Easter Chick Peep. Her bodyguards are portrayed by Halloween Ghost Peeps. The Peeperazzi are portrayed by Easter Bunny Peeps, Valentine's Day Teddy Bear Peeps, Halloween Cocoa Cat Peeps, and Christmas Snowman Peeps. The bushes outside the Starbucks where the incident takes place are portrayed by Christmas Tree Peeps.
Dimensions: 21" x 8.5" (53 cm x 22 cm)
Materials Used: Cardboard shoebox, computer graphics, digital photographs, black Crayola Model Magic (to add some weight to the computer printout of miniature cameras), a dollhouse-sized flower pot (to simulate a large-sized Starbucks coffee cup), black acrylic paint (to simulate Peepney's black shoes), sewing pins, sparkly dark green felt, sparkly silver zig-zag trim, yellow embroidery thread, marshmallow Peeps (yes, it's the famous candy that gets released in North America a few times a year--usually around a holiday), and various colored Sharpies (to cover up any white bald spots in the Peeps and to write the word "Security" on the Halloween Ghost Peeps).
