Dolls

The Hippie Fairy

This one was the first male doll that I've refurbished. He was also a doll that I purchased new mainly because I've recently purchased a Soul Doll Kimmy and I needed some clothes that would fit him and I only purchased this Ken doll so I can take his outfit for the other doll.

Technical Specs:

Type of Doll: Ken doll that was purchased from a local toy store.
Size: 29 cm/12 inches
Hair: Black
Eyes: Brown
Lips: Dark pink
Outfit Description: Wears an outfit that I improvised using suggestions from Tina Casey's book Fabulous Fashion Doll Clothing You Can Make. Fairy wings were made out of polymer clay (with details painted with acrylic paint) then glued on the outfit. Shoulder accents were made out of polymer clay then glued on the shirt. Peace necklace was made out of polymer clay and strung with blue hemp twine. Fairy ears were made out of air-drying clay before being attached to the doll's head. The ears were painted in flesh color once the clay dried.

Date I Finished Customizing This Doll: September 20, 2007
Sold: 2007 Crafty Bastards Festival, Washington, DC, September 30, 2007

Here is what this doll looked like when I first bought him from the toy store. He was originally a wedding groom doll (with a matching bride Barbie doll that was sold separately).

Here is the doll after his makeover. I gave his original outfit to my Soul Doll Kimmy but I left the shoes on this doll because Kimmy's feet are smaller in size than Ken's.

His outfit was made out of felt with tiny stickers applied to the felt pants. (White glue was used on the edges of the stickers in order to ensure that they don't fall off.)
