This was my first attempt at making a traditional Japanese outfit. Two nearly identical sets were made. One is part of my Volks Dollfie Dream's permanent wardrobe. The other has been sold on eBay.
Type of Doll This Outfit Fits: 1/3 scale doll (22-24 inches/60 cm).
Pattern It's Based On: A kimono pattern that's been posted on the Doll Making by Runo site. It was enlarged by 115%.
Outfit Description: The kimono was made from a silk-like fabric that's really a polyester blend brocade fabric that has tiny embroidery of tiny cherry blossoms in dark pink, light pink, and white. The edges of the kimono fabric were treated with a non-fraying solution prior to sewing because the cut edges had a nasty tendency to shed fibers a lot. The juban (underwear) and obi (belt) were made from a light pink polyester/rayon blend fabric.
Date I Finished Work on It: April 1, 2005

Juban (underwear). I sewed a few snaps in the front to get the juban to close tight and prevent it from bulking up under the kimono. |
