1/6 Scale Small Doll Comfy Chair

In early 2006 I took an eight-week polymer clay class that was offered through the local community center in my neighborhood. During the third week of class, the instuctor had us make one piece of dollhouse furniture. Since I don't collect dollhouses and, at the time, I didn't have any 1/12 scale dolls who could use it, I decided to make my chair a little bit bigger so it could hold a 1/6 scale doll. The chair was initially constructed with an armature made out of wire and alumnium foil. Then a layer of white Original Sculpey clay (which is dubbed "economy clay" because it's the cheapest Sculpey product that's currently available on the market) is laid over the wire and foil armature and baked. After that, a layer of colored Sculpey clay (the stuff that's sold in small 1 ounce bricks at many arts and crafts store) is placed over the piece. The teacher encouraged me to do a pattern for the top layer so, using tiny cookie cutters, I created a heart-shaped pink pattern against a navy blue background. It was a very time-consuming process but it led to this fantastic result.

Date I Finished Work on It: February 11, 2006

Soom Mini-Gem Uyoo relaxes in her own special way.

This chair is big enough to accomodate a big-headed, small-bodied doll like Blythe.

This chair is also big enough to accomdate two Volks Dollfie Plus dolls in a romantic setting.

With a little imagination, this chair could be used as a prop for many doll photostories or even a single dramatic doll photo like this one involving a Donald Trump doll and a pirate doll.
