Dolls

Ji

Standing at three inches tall, Ji is the smallest doll I've ever customized as of this writing.

Technical Specs:

Type of Doll: Orient Doll Ji
Size: 10 cm/3 inches
Hair: Wears a white default wig that was shipped with the doll.
Eyes:The doll originally came with navy blue acrylic eyes. I subsequently switched to brown acrylic eyes.
Lips: Pink lips painted directly on the face using acrylic paint and a matte varnish.
Blushing: Light pink blush was originally done on the cheeks using chalk pastels. The entire body was sprayed with Mr. Super Clear prior to blushing then was sprayed with Mr. Top Coat after blushing to seal the chalk pastels. Unfortunately this blushing faded over time. I re-did the blushing by using acrylic paint that had been diluted with water then applying it to the paint using tiny paintbrushes (to apply the paint) and a paper towel (to soak up any excess paint). The new blush was sealed with a layer of matte varnish, two layers of Mr. Super Clear, and two layers of Mr. Top Coat. I also added eyelashes and new eyes during the re-blushing.

One cool touch the company provided was this package that contained three pieces of hard candy with its business card. (The candy was delicious by the way.)

Here is the company's business card that came packaged with the candy. (That male doll on the card is incredibly gorgeous!)

Here is Ji as she first came out of the box before I did any kind of customization. Unlike many Asian ball-jointed dolls, Ji has an asexual body (meaning that she has a flat chest with no nipples and no genitailia). Even though I chose Ji's gender as female, I could've just as easily made the doll into a boy if I wanted to.

Here is the back of Ji prior to being customized by me.

Here is Ji after I finished customizing her the first time.

The biggest problem with the faceup was that the original chalk pastel blush had faded after a few months. I also thought that the original faceup was a bit on the plain side. So I re-did the blush (using acrylic paint heavily diluted with water), replaced the navy blue eyes with brown eyes, re-painted the eyebrows, and added eyelashes.

Here is a close-up of her face after the second customization.

I made Ji's outfit myself using a Barbie pattern that I reduced down to Ji's size. I made Ji's fairy wings out of polymer clay, then attached the wings to the dress using velcro.
