Artomatic 2009 started six months after I underwent hip replacement surgery in November, 2008. It was a challenge preparing for the show while I was undergoing physical therapy at the same time. But I managed to pull it off.
For my exhibit I had a mix of art that I showed at previous Artomatics in 2007 and 2008 along with some new art that I created while I was recuperating from surgery. (I couldn't move around very much so I decided to focus on working with my hands.) I also had a few pieces on display that were based on my dolls. Here is a video that focused on my own exhibit--including the doll ones.
I brought the dolls with me that I used in my art to the "Meet the Artists" Night on June 13, 2009. I displayed them on my little table as I sat down in a chair and greeted visitors. When the night ended, I packed the dolls and brought them home with me. I shot a short video that night featuring my dolls and the actual art work where I used them to inspiration. (Four of the pieces were photographs while one of them was a watercolor that I used my Bobobie Sprite as a model. I changed some of the facial features but I still kept the elf's green skin color and wild dark green wig.)
