Craft Show at The New Deal Cafe,
Greenbelt, Maryland, March 1, 2008

(Originally written on March 1, 2008)

Today I worked the first craft show of the year at The New Deal Cafe. Despite dealing with my friend's sudden and untimely death at the hands of her boyfriend a week ago today, I was still glad that I forced myself into taking part in this show rather than sit at home and continue with thinking about her death. The $10 vendor fee was pretty good, the whole show was indoors (which is a good thing since the weather can be pretty iffy this time of the year), and they provided table space and chairs so I didn't have to haul my own tables and chairs. I worked from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. (when the cafe closed for the afternoon), which wasn't bad.

The only negative thing was that the craft show was poorly publicized. Aside from the New Deal Cafe's website and e-mailing list, there was no public notice that this event was happening today. The crowds were pretty small as a result. Despite all that, I managed to sell some of my new photojewelry necklace/pin combination that I made out of Shrinky Dinks and were made from my own digital photos. The Shrinky Dinks were the only ones that I managed to sell.

The big challenge was that we vendors had very limited table space. There were some items (such as some of the polymer clay necklaces) that I couldn't even display due to a lack of space. But I managed with the space that I was given.

The only photos I took were of my own table shortly before the start of the craft show. (Click on any of the photos to see a larger version open in a new window.)
