Today the weather went up to 71 degrees Farenheit, which is unusually warm for the Washington, DC area in January. In fact, the weather has been so unseasonably warm on the east coast of the United States that I saw a story about it on ABC's World News.
What's amazing is that this is happening on January 6, the Feast of the Epiphany or the Twelfth Day of Christmas, which is the traditional last day of the Christmas holiday season and I ended up wearing a t-shirt today because it was too warm to wear any of my Christmas-themed sweaters. (I normally wear such a sweater on January 6 since it's the last day I could get away with wearing such a sweater in public.)
So I decided to treat myself to going to downtown DC and walking around outside. The news kept on saying that the cherry blossom trees are starting to bud much earlier than usual and a few other flowers are starting to bloom. So I decided to bring my camera to take a few shots. I also decided to take my Soom Mini-Gem Uyoo mainly because I recently installed her new blue-green eyes that I got from Kemper Dolls and I wanted to take a few photos with her new look. Since it was so warm outside, I thought it would be appropriate for my Uyoo to wear a skimpy My Scene Barbie dress. (Click on any photos to see a larger version open in a new window.)
We first arrived in Dupont Circle, where we decided to take a lunch break at Cosi.
Here is the fountain that's located in the middle of Dupont Circle.
There are a bunch of outdoor tables near the fountain. On a nice day like today, those tables are usually filled up with chess players. The only reason why I was able to find an empty table to take doll photos at all is that someone stole the stone seats that usually surround it. So I took the opportunity to take some photos of my doll's new eyes in the sunlight.
One of Dupont Circle's famous landmarks is the Lambda Rising bookstore, which caters to the gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgendered community. Lambda Rising sells more than just books, it sells numerous novelty items like the Tom of Finland 1/6 scale doll.
After hanging around Dupont Circle for a while, we took the Metro subway over to the Mall. Here is a typical political ad one can find in the Metro stations.
How unusually warm was it in Wasington, DC? Here are a few pansies that are blooming in January.
Here's the Washington Monument, which is the tallest building in Washington, DC and it can be seen for miles around.
The weather was so warm that the cherry blossom trees started to bud earlier than usual. So I took a bunch of photos of my doll among the cherry blossom buds. (You can also see the Washington Monument in the background of some of these photos.)
Here's the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (also known as the place that prints U.S. currency).
The day ended with a brief stop outside the U.S. Museum of the Holocaust.
