Here are a few special photos I took especially for Christmas, 2006. (Click on any photos to see a larger version open in a new window.)
In the first few photos, I basically had my Volks Dollfie Dream (all decked out in her dark green velvet outfit) hold some mistletoe over a pair of Jun Planning dolls (a Pullip Latte and Namu Trunk) as they snuggle and kiss each other right in front of the Christmas tree.
In this set of photos, my Volks Dollfie Dream snuggles next to a big Mickey Mouse stuffed animal, who is slightly taller than my Dollfie Dream. My Dollfie Dream is holding a special ornament in her lap. There is an interesting story behind these photos.
The last time I saw my father alive was when my husband and I visited my parents on Thanksgiving Day back in 2000. My father had been ailing for a number of years and he wasn't expected to live much longer. On the morning before the visit, I happened to put the annual television broadcast of the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade from New York City when I saw this giant balloon shaped like Mickey Mouse dressed as a marching band conductor. I thought it was incredibly cute and all that.
My father died a week and a half later. The fact that he died so close to the upcoming Christmas holiday season put a damper on the celebrations. Well I saw an ad in the newspaper for Macy's and I found that the store was putting out all kinds of things based on that Mickey Mouse balloon that was carried around at the Thanksgiving Day parade. Well I went to Macy's and I was feeling down from my father's recent death and I became awestruck by what I saw. Well, on impulse, I purchased the stuffed Mickey Mouse doll and a Lenox Christmas ornament that came with its own stand so I could opt to display it on a table instead of hanging it on the Christmas tree.
Here is the Lenox Christmas ornament. You can see a replica of the Mickey Mouse balloon hovering over a few New York City landmarks. The front center building is a replica of Macy's flagship store in New York City (which I actually visited a few times--it is the largest department store I had ever visited and it's definitely worth visiting if you're ever in the area). Next to the Macy store is the Thanksgiving turkey balloon that is traditionally used in the annual Thanksgiving Day parade.
The other side of the ornament has the year 2000 printed on the outside. This ornament is poignant to me in another way. You can see the twin towers of the World Trade Center on the right, which were destroyed just nine months after I purchased that ornament.
