A few hours after I posted my last entry on Saturday, I was all psyched to go to a party that a friend of mine was having. The theme of his party was fantasy and mythology and guests were encouraged to dress as a god, goddess, or mythological creature. Well, I didn't have a costume so my husband and I originally planned to attend wearing Kokopelli shirts that we purchased on previous trips to Arizona. Then, at the last minute, my husband decided that he was too tired to go partying and he was getting too engrossed in this baseball game that was on TV. (I forgot which teams were playing. Neither one were the local teams anyway so it doesn't matter.)
But then I took a look at my Dollfie Dream, Sakura, wearing the new mermaid's tail that I bought for her recently and an idea struck my head. If my husband wouldn't go to the party, I'll just bring my doll as a "date."
Well, Sakura the mermaid was a hit among the partygoers. No one whom I spoke to have ever heard of Volks, Dollfies, or ball-jointed dolls but they were fascinated by her. I had two people ask me if she was anatomically correct so I pulled down her mermaid's tail for people to check out and they both thought it was cool. (In fact, one of them said, "Cool! She's not like Barbie!") There was one person who was so impressed with Sakura that she gave me a flyer to the upcoming Maryland Faerie Festival, which will be held on May 21.
I took a few photos of Sakura at the party, although the quality isn't always the greatest since I took some of them outside at night. (Feel free to click on the thumbnails below to view larger versions of these photos in a different window.)
Sakura lying besides a water garden. (A perfect place for a mermaid.)
The party's sound system consisted of an Apple iBook G-4 running iTunes that was hooked up to an external sound system that included a mixing device.
